Marking Scheme:

• +2 marks for every correct answer

• -0.5 marks for every wrong answer

• -1 marks for every multiple choice question with more than 1 answer marked

• 0 marks for every unattempted question

MTSE Selection Process

The MTSE Selection Process comprises four stages, namely, Written Test, Group Discussion, Personal Interview, and Medical Test. The entire process spans over a period of two to four weeks. The written test is the first step of the selection process and consists of two papers. The first paper is of objective type and tests the candidate’s aptitude and analytical skills. The second paper is of descriptive type and evaluates the candidate’s knowledge of the particular subject. Candidates who pass the written test are eligible for the next stage, i.e. Group Discussion.

In this stage, the candidates are assessed on their ability to communicate and articulate and organized solutions on a given topic. The last stages of the selection process are the Personal Interview and Medical Test. The personal interview is aimed at assessing the candidate’s technical knowledge and aptitude, ability to think logically, and attitude towards work. The medical test evaluates the candidate’s fitness level. Those who pass the medical test are finally selected for the job.

MTSE Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to take part in the MTSE (Mapping The Skies Examination), a person must:

1. Be a student from Class 8-10

2. Be conscious about their performance in Mathematics and Science

3. Have interest in Astronomy, Astrophysics and Astronomy related fields.

4. Be registered with IDEAS and have a valid ID

5. Have awarded at least 75% marks in current academic year in Maths & Science and also have an overall average of more than 75%

6. Have prior participation in marquee astronomy oriented programmes like International Olympiad of Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA), National Astronomy Olympiad, International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO), National Observatory Science Olympiad (NOSO) etc.

7. Must attend all days of the MTSE 2021.
