Bihar PSC SYLLABUS

Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) is a body created by the Constitution of India to select applicants for civil service jobs in the Indian state of Bihar according to the merits of the applicants and the rules of reservation. It was established on 1 April 1949 under the provision of the Government of India Act, 1935, and later adopted by the Constitution of India. The commission is headed by a chairman and comprises five members. The Commission recommends applicants for direct recruitment in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Rules and Regulations of the Government of Bihar. The Commission also conducts departmental examinations for promotion and conducts departmental examinations for Group ‘B’ and above posts. Bihar Public Service Commission is also responsible for the recruitment of teachers in various government and private schools of the state.

Prerequisites

The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) requires applicants to have a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university. Candidates should also possess knowledge of the local language, as it is a compulsory requirement for posts of certain categories. Furthermore, applicants must have knowledge of computers and must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by UGC or CSIR.

Structure of Examination

The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) conducts various examinations for the recruitment of suitable candidates for various positions in the State Government of Bihar. The paper structure for the Bihar PSC examinations usually consists of the following sections:

1. General Knowledge (50 marks): This section tests the candidates’ knowledge about current affairs, history, geography, and other general knowledge areas.

Bihar PSC Syllabus – Eligibility

The minimum educational qualification required to apply for a post in the Bihar Public Service Commission is a graduation degree from a recognised university or institution. Candidates must have passed the required subject in their graduation degree. Along with the educational qualification, the candidate must also have the required skills, knowledge and experience related to the post they are applying for.

Physical Standards 

The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) prescribes physical standards for candidates applying for various posts. The physical standards vary from post to post.

For most of the posts, the physical standards prescribed by the BPSC are as follows:

Height: General category candidates must have a minimum height of 155 cm for male candidates and 145 cm for female candidates.

Chest: Male candidates must have an expanded chest measurement of 81 cm.

Weight: Male candidates must have a minimum weight of 50 kg and female candidates must have a minimum weight of 45 kg.

Eye Sight: Candidates must have normal vision in both eyes.

Physical Endurance Test: Candidates must pass a physical endurance test which includes running, jumping, climbing, etc.

Medical Test: Candidates must pass a medical test conducted by a medical officer appointed by the BPSC. The medical test includes physical examination, urine test, and blood test.

Bihar PSC Syllabus – Preliminary Exam

The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) Preliminary Exam syllabus is designed to test the knowledge and aptitude of candidates who wish to join the Bihar civil services. The exam is conducted in two papers, Paper I and Paper II.

Paper I consists of General Studies and General Aptitude. The topics in General Studies include: Indian History, Geography, Indian Polity, Indian Economy, General Science, Current Events and General Mental Ability. The topics in General Aptitude include: Numerical Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, English Language Comprehension, and Data Interpretation.

Paper II consists of Optional Subjects from which the candidate must choose one. The subjects are: Agriculture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Commerce & Accountancy, Economics, Electrical Engineering, Forestry, Geology, Law, Management, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Medical Science, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science & International Relations, Psychology, Public Administration, Sociology and Zoology.

The syllabus for each subject is designed to test the candidate’s knowledge and understanding of the subject. The syllabus is divided into three parts: theory, practicals and viva-voce. The theory portion consists of topics related to the subject, such as definitions, principles, laws and theories. The practical portion consists of problems and questions related to the subject. The viva-voce portion is an oral examination which tests the candidate’s communication skills and ability to answer questions.

The Bihar Public Service Commission also conducts a mains exam which consists of nine papers. The syllabus for this exam is more detailed and includes topics like Indian Polity, Economics, History, Geography, Law, Public Administration, and General Studies.
